A swift-moving brush fire in East San Diego threatened at least a dozen homes Monday afternoon before firefighters were able to bring it under control, a San Diego Fire Department spokesman said.

It took 45 minutes for about 60 firefighters to put out the fire in the 6400 block of Zena Drive, said department spokesman Larry Stewart. The fire threatened homes on Vista Grande Drive, Celia Vista Drive, Butler Place and Bing Street, but the fact that homeowners had put in ice plant and cleared brush away from their homes helped in controlling the blaze under control, Stewart said.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Stewart said.
