College Football : Big Ten Roundup : Utah Topples Wisconsin on Final Play, 31-28
Scott Lieber’s dreams turned to reality Saturday. Not only did he kick a 39-yard field goal on the final play of the game to give Utah a 31-28 victory over Wisconsin, but he won a scholarship as well.
“For the last six years, every night as I go to bed, I dream of something like this,” said Lieber, whose game-winning kick came after the Utes had stopped Wisconsin quarterback Bud Keyes on fourth and two at the Utah 40 with 1:48 to play.
Lieber also kicked field goals of 44 and 17 yards to help the Utes improve to 2-1 and drop the Badgers to 1-1.
“The coach (Jim Fassell) came up to me after the game,” Lieber said, “and announced to the entire team that I was now on scholarship.”
Badger Coach Don Morton admitted that the fourth-and-two call with Keyes was a crucial one and “if we had to do it over again, I wouldn’t have run that play.
“I’ll go over that play a thousand times in my mind,” he said.
