A Vietnamese gang member arrested in Chatsworth is suspected of committing 14 robberies that have recently plagued the Los Angeles area’s Asian community, police said Tuesday.

Thao Van Nguin, 20, a transient from the Houston area, was one of six Viet Ching gang members arrested Monday after threatening the life of a man who could identify members of the gang as suspects in the robbery of a home, Detective Jim Bryan said. A warrant for Nguin’s arrest on suspicion of nine recent home robberies in Los Angeles and five more in El Monte was issued last week, Bryan said.

Nguin and the five other gang members were arrested during a five-hour standoff with police at the Sasa Sushi restaurant in the 21500 block of Devonshire Street in Chatsworth. No one was injured.
