BAD TIMING
How satisfying to read Freyda Sullivan’s letter about the deterioration of The Times (Saturday Letters, Oct. 16). This is something that’s needed saying for a long while.
However, she is really too kind about the Calendar section, which is even less rewarding than the dry-as-dust Book Review section.
Daily Calendar is bad enough, and the recent addition of the “comic”(?) strip “Mogul Weevil” is fairly typical of the whole mess: repeated reference to “inside” stuff from Hollywood, endless reports on box office and TV ratings (how many readers really care ?), all peppered with grammatical errors.
But it’s the Sunday Calendar that’s really the nadir. Would it be possible to put all the rock-artist-Hilburn-Michael Jackson letters overflow--this garbage--on an insert sheet that the intelligent reader could discard?
