Pacific 10 Roundup : Washington Wins, but Loses Aloha Bid

Washington rallied for three touchdowns in the final quarter Saturday to beat Washington State, 34-19, in a Pacific 10 Conference finale at Seattle, but it turned into a letdown in the locker room.

After the game, the Huskies (6-4-1 overall, 4-3-1 in the Pac-10) learned that USC beat UCLA to win the Rose Bowl berth, and the Aloha Bowl bid the Huskies were expecting went to UCLA.

Washington State (3-7, 1-5) closes out its season next Saturday in Tokyo against California.

Washington took the Apple Cup before 74,038 in Husky Stadium after Aaron Jenkins scored on a 31-yard run, Eugene Burkhalter returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown and Vince Weathersby scored on a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter.

The Cougars went ahead, 19-14, when quarterback Timm Rosenbach scored on a one-yard run with 1:40 gone in the fourth quarter.

But minutes later, Jenkins and Burkhalter scored 33 seconds apart to turn the game around.

The Huskies rallied behind sophomore quarterback Cary Conklin, who replaced Chris Chandler. Chandler bruised his chest in the second quarter after leading Washington to a 14-3 lead.

Oregon 44, Oregon State 0--Derek Loville ran for two touchdowns at Eugene, Ore., and the Ducks beat the Beavers for the 12th time in 13 years.

Loville had 103 yards in 23 carries and scored on runs of 3 and 2 yards as the Ducks (6-5, 4-4) took a 27-0 halftime lead. Kirk Dennis kicked field goals of 28, 49 and 39 yards.

Quarterback Bill Musgrave passed for 128 yards and threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to tight end Joe Meerten.

Quarterback Erik Wilhelm of Oregon State (2-9, 0-7) left the game early in the second quarter with an ankle injury.

Oregon Coach Rich Brooks has never lost in the game. Brooks was 8-0-1 as a player and assistant coach with the Beavers and is 10-0-1 as the Duck coach.
