Corona del Mar Tops Newport Harbor in 4-A Water Polo
Chris Oeding scored seven goals to lead Corona del Mar High School to the Southern Section 4-A water polo championship over Newport Harbor, 10-8, at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach.
Oeding, a junior, scored Corona del Mar’s first four goals. Oeding scored two goals and had an assist in the fourth quarter when Corona del Mar outscored Newport Harbor, 3-2.
The championship is the second in three years for Corona del Mar (27-4).
Newport Harbor (27-5) was led by Robert Gifford who scored four goals.
El Dorado defeated Los Alamitos, 9-7, for its third 3-A title in a row, and Costa Mesa routed Harvard, 16-7, for its second straight 2-A title.
