Alabama Holds On for Exhibition Victory
Alvin Lee scored 24 points Saturday night to lead the University of Alabama to a 93-89 victory over Athletes In Action in an exhibition game.
AIA cut Alabama’s lead to 91-89 when Derrick Taylor made a layup with 27 seconds left in the game. But when AIA’s Mark Gottfried missed on a three-point shot, Alabama’s Melvin Cheatum rebounded the ball, was fouled and made both ends of a 1-and-1 foul shot with three seconds left to make the score 93-89.
Alabama led by as many as 16 points in the first half and by the same margin with just over 15 minutes left in the second half.
Joining Lee in double figures for Alabama were Michael Ansley with 20 points and Kemble Smith with 10.
Taylor and Michael Wiley, both with 18 points, led Athletes in Action. Other AIA scorers in double figures were Lorenzo Romar with 14 points, Wally Rank with 13 and Gottfried with 11.
