THE COMMUNITY COLLEGES : Basketball Roundup : Brodowski Leads Cypress Over Saddleback, 61-57

Chris Brodowski scored 19 points to lead Cypress College to a 61-57 victory over Saddleback Saturday night in the final of the Fullerton tournament at Fullerton College.

The Chargers (3-0) trailed at halftime, 35-29, but rallied in the second half behind Brodowski, who made 9 of 9 from the field and grabbed 8 rebounds. He was selected the tournament’s most valuable player.

Saddleback trailed, 59-55, when center Jim Waikle scored 10 points to cut the deficit to two. However, Jim Sammons made both ends of a one-and-one to clinch the victory. Sammons, who was named to the all-tournament team, scored 16 points.

Vincent Smalls had 16 points for Saddleback (2-1).

In the third-place game:

Cerritos 73, Fullerton 70: Jim Taylor scored 24 points to lead the Falcons (2-1). Kevin Walker and Chris Naulls each had 10 points for Cerritos.

Fullerton (2-2) was led by Troy Joseph, who scored 21 points.

In a nonconference game:

Orange Coast 60, MiraCosta 52: Dave Miles scored 14 points and had 16 rebounds, and teammate Dereck Crane had 11 points for the Pirates (1-1) at MiraCosta.
