Viatcheslav Lavrov and Sergey Tepliakov scored goals 18 seconds apart in the third period Saturday night, boosting the Soviet Selects to a 6-4 victory over the U.S. Olympic team.
The win by the touring Soviet squad evened the eight-game series at 1-1. The U.S. team had opened the tour with an 8-5 win Thursday night at Cleveland.
The game was extremely hard-hitting, and a brawl broke out among several players--a few wild punches were thrown and four players were penalized--with four minutes remaining. The brawl lasted only a few seconds, as officials quickly calmed tempers.
The teams are scheduled to continue their series tonight at Uniondale, N.Y.
Tied, 2-2, entering the final period, the Soviets seized a 4-2 lead on Lavrov's power-play goal and Tepliakov's breakaway score.
