Scouts to Be Honored for Graffiti Cleanup

Share

Scouts who spent a Sunday this month painting over graffiti at an unoccupied school will be honored Jan. 5 by the Huntington Beach City School District.

Cub Scout Pack 435 and Boy Scout Troop 435--a total of about 125 boys--will be formally recognized for their community service at the 7 p.m. school board meeting, which will be held at Le Bard Elementary School, 20451 Craimer Lane, Huntington Beach.

The boys, who attend either Hawes Elementary School or Sowers Middle School, spent the afternoon of Dec. 6 painting over obscene language, crude drawings and slogans that covered most of the walls at Gisler Junior High School--now vacant and unused as a result of declining enrollment.

The cleanup was part of a project by the scouts and the school district to spruce up defaced school sites. The district provided the paint; the scouts provided brushes and rollers and, of course, the labor.
