Distraught after breaking up with his girlfriend, a 24-year-old man allegedly kidnaped her and held her at gunpoint in his Pacific Beach apartment for several hours before surrendering to police early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

According to San Diego police, Scott Pearman went to an apartment in the 5200 block of Lewison Court at 9:45 p.m., kicked opened the front door and confronted his ex-girlfriend, who was at the apartment with her new boyfriend.

Pearman, armed with a shotgun, then fired a round into a bedroom wall, police said. He fired a second round into a stereo before leaving with the woman, Officer Tom Plotts said, adding that no one was injured.

Police found Pearman’s car in front of his residence in the 2000 block of Balboa Avenue. They called the apartment, and Pearman answered the phone. After a brief conversation, he hung up.

The woman was believed to be inside the apartment, and the Special Weapons and Tactics team was called in, Plotts said. Pearman surrendered to police at 5:30 a.m.

Pearman was being held in County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, kidnaping, burglary, vandalism and displaying a weapon in a threatening manner, Plotts said.
