Boys’ Athletes of the Week : BASEBALL
Aaron Mirandon and Torrey Pines continued to sparkle. Mirandon, a senior pitcher, had 3 hits and 4 RBIs and raised his record to 3-0 in a Lions tournament victory over Grossmont. The win made Torrey Pines 10-0.
“I don’t want his head to grow big,” said Frank Chambliss, the Torrey Pines coach, “but Dean has worked hard. Last year he had grade problems (and was suspended).”
Mirandon, who is 6-feet 2-inches tall and weighs 180 pounds, has bolstered his studies--he has a 3.1 grade-point average--and refined his forkball.
Senior first baseman Brent Woodall and catcher Adam Lenain each went 3 for 3 in the fourth inning of La Jolla’s 27-1 drubbing of Mar Vista in a Lions tournament game Saturday.
One of Woodall’s hits was a two-run home run. For the game, he was 4 for 4 with 4 runs scored and 4 runs batted in. Lenain was 4 for 5 and also had 4 RBIs.
