Local News in Brief : Mission Viejo : College Station Gets Grant for News Service

Share

KSBR, the FM radio station at Saddleback College, has announced that it will expand its news coverage as the result of a $5,000 grant from San Diego Gas & Electric Co.

The grant will allow the station to subscribe to Associated Press Network News, thus freeing the KSBR news staff to concentrate on local news, said Gregory Bishopp, station general manager and dean of the college’s fine arts and communications division. “Instead of having someone at the station delivering hourly newscasts, we can send that person out to concentrate on local stories and follow up on items of community interest,” he said.

Terry Wedel, the station’s news director, said he plans to reopen the station’s bureau in the Orange County Hall of Administration to cover important public hearings. The grant will pay for one year of Associated Press service, Wedel said. If the grant is not renewed, station management will seek funding from other sources, he said.
