Council Approves Mandatory Water Conservation Plan

Share

For the first time in a decade, mandatory water conservation steps were ordered today for all Los Angeles residents and businesses. They will probably take force on Thursday.

The City Council gave final approval today, concurring with Mayor Tom Bradley’s call for the rules last week as a step to avert water shortages later this year.

Under the rules, restaurants may only serve water to patrons on request. Residents and businesses will be required to fix leaky faucets and toilets and residents will be forbidden from using water to clean off patios, driveways and sidewalks.

Repeat violators could be penalized with restrictions on their water supply under a city ordinance passed in 1977.
