Two elderly women were wounded by pellets fired from a passing car Wednesday as they sat waiting for a bus across from the Beverly Center shopping center.

The women, Iris Turner, 62, and Lillian Gordon, 77, both of Los Angeles, were taken to nearby Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where officials expected them to be treated and released.

Turner was grazed in the shin near the foot with a pellet, said medical center spokesman Ronald Wise, while a pellet lodged in Gordon’s wrist.

Los Angeles police said the 2 p.m. pellet gun shootings apparently were not gang related. Several people were seated on the bus bench at La Cienega Boulevard and 3rd Street, but the two women were the only ones injured, officers said.
