Weekend Balloon Festival Will Get Under Way Today at Madera Airport

More than 100 hot-air balloons are expected to compete for prizes today, Sunday and Monday during the third California Balloon Festival at Madera Municipal Airport near Fresno.

The festival, held daily from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m., includes fixed-wing aircraft aerobatics demonstrations, parachute jumping, a Boy Scout flight jamboree, music, food booths and souvenir, arts and crafts stands.

Admission is $1 per person; parking $1 per vehicle. Balloon rides are also available.

Proceeds go to benefit the Easter Seal Society of Central California.

The Madera airport is north of Fresno on California 99 at Avenue 17.
