Rockets Set to Name Chaney as Coach Today
The Houston Rockets scheduled a Monday morning news conference to announce the appointment of Atlanta Hawks assistant Don Chaney as their new head coach.
Chaney, 41, who played college basketball at the University of Houston, has been the Rockets’ No. 1 choice to replace Bill Fitch, who was fired last week.
Club officials Sunday announced the news conference at a Houston hotel, apparently to announce Chaney’s appointment.
Chaney arrived Sunday to meet with Rocket General Manager Ray Patterson and work out final details of his contract. The former Clipper coach told Houston-area television stations he had the job.
