Local News in Brief : Nazi Will Begin Jail Stay
The leader of a small neo-Nazi group has begun serving a 120-day County Jail term for assaulting two Amtrak police officers during a melee involving the Jewish Defense League.
Stanley Witek, 54, identified by prosecutors as the director of the tiny National Socialist White People’s Party, surrendered before Municipal Court Judge Susan Isacoff and was taken into custody.
Witek, of Los Angeles, was convicted in February, 1987, of misdemeanor assault and battery for hurling a two-foot-high metal ashtray at two Amtrak police officers during a melee between white supremacists and JDL members at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles in May, 1986.
In a separate case, Witek faces trial on a felony charge of illegally possessing a night stick.
