Charles Wins Senior Golf Tournament
Bob Charles made three birdies on the back nine en route to a 3-under-par 69 and a two-stroke victory Monday over Gary Player in the $350,000 Senior Gold Rush golf tournament.
Charles, playing in his third year on the Senior Tour, had three consecutive rounds of 69 for a 9-under 207 total in the 54-hole tournament and his third Senior Tour victory of the season. He earned $52,500 and took over first place on the Senior money list with $285,908.
“I thought it would take 12 under par to win,” Charles, 52, said. “But with the wind and pin placements, it was more difficult to judge shots.”
Player shot a final-round 70 to finish at 209. He earned $30,000.
