A seven-year prison sentence has been imposed on a man convicted of manslaughter in a Mojave Desert slaying that authorities said stemmed from an argument over desert protection legislation. Gary Lee Moore, 47, was sentenced by Kern County Superior Court Judge John Nairn after pleading no contest. Sheriff’s investigators said that during a vodka-drinking party, Moore argued with Darryl Lee Boche, 38, a Joannesburg miner, about Sen. Alan Cranston’s bill to bar future mining exploration in some areas of the desert. Moore, an electrician from Red Mountain, was accused of fatally stabbing Boche in the chest near Randsburg on March 12.
