Welch hit 10 home runs, drove in 39 runs and batted .565 during the American Legion season, leading Woodland Hills (West) to the District 20 Western Division title.
Welch, who was signed by scout George Genovese, hit just one homer as a senior at El Camino Real and did not receive a scholarship offer.
