VIDEO CHARTS : Williams Tops Rentals and Sales Lists
“Good Morning, Vietnam,” which showcases Robin Williams’ scatter-gun comedic style, has commandeered the top spots of both Billboard magazine video charts. For the second week, it heads the sales chart, which measures sales to retailers and distributors. And this week it bounded from No. 8 to the No. 1 on the rental chart. Though priced at $29.95 to attract buyers, it obviously has great rental appeal, too. But its rental-chart reign could be brief, with “Moonstruck” coming out next week. “The Manchurian Candidate,” the 1962 Frank Sinatra thriller that did surprisingly well when re-released in movie houses, is also doing decent rental business--No. 22.
* Director Steven Spielberg’s “Empire of the Sun,” which got mixed reviews, never did glow at the box office, but should have its day in the sun in the home video rental market. It debuted at No. 12 and has Top Five potential.
