A Stanton man returned home from an errand to find his wife dead in their mobile home, police said Wednesday.

Jack Turner, 56, found his wife, Ann, 53, dead on the floor of their dining room at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Lt. Richard Olson of the Sheriff’s Department said she had suffered trauma to her body, but he would not elaborate.

Neighbors said homicide investigators told them the victim was either stabbed or beaten to death.

There was no sign of forced entry and nothing was missing from the home, Olson said.

Investigators were not sure how long Ann Turner had been alone in the home at Fernwood Mobile Home Park, where she lived with her husband and their 25-year-old daughter.

Under Doctor’s Care

An autopsy is scheduled for today. The coroner’s office referred inquiries to the Sheriff’s Department.

Jack Turner has been under a doctor’s care for heart problems and suffered chest pains Tuesday, according to Olson. He was taken to a local hospital, where he remained Wednesday.

Residents in the 165-unit mobile home park--many of them retired--stood on their porches and in the streets Wednesday, discussing what little they knew about the mysterious death.

Ann Turner was an accountant and her husband had been out of work because of his medical problems, according to neighbors. The couple had lived in the trailer park for nearly three years with their daughter, according to Betty Muncey, who lives two doors from the Turners.

“We didn’t see anything” Tuesday night, Muncey said. “The police went through the whole park and questioned everyone, but nobody we know saw anything or heard anything.”

She said the Turners were active in recreational activities at the park.

“We just had a luau Saturday night and they were there just as cheerful as they can be,” Muncey said. “They were just nice people,” her husband, Fred, added.

The Munceys and other neighbors said the mobile home park is quiet and that residents have had no problems with crime.
