Crews Scour Beijing in Cabbage Cleanup

Sanitation teams worked around the clock to clear tons of cabbage leaves from the streets of the capital during the cabbage-buying season, a Chinese newspaper said Sunday.

The teams have picked up more than 10,000 tons of cabbage, the Beijing Daily reported. The cabbage fell off the hundreds of trucks piled high with the produce that began rattling into the city from farms last week.

More of the leaves were scattered at marketplaces where families bought cartloads of cabbage, a staple they stack on their roofs or fire escapes and eat during the winter months.
