Local News in Brief : Orange : Anti-Drug Contest’s Winners Announced
Drive Alive 88 on Monday announced winners of its competition for radio public-service announcements written by students to encourage drug-free, alcohol-free driving.
The annual competition is sponsored by the Orange County Alcohol Advisory Board. Winners were revealed during a reception Monday afternoon at the CareUnit Hospital of Orange.
In the high school competition, first-place winners were Veronica Kenny, Helen Chen and Michael Chen, all of Valencia High School in Placentia. Dina Nieman of Villa Park High School won second place, and Jodi Willenbring of El Dorado High School in Placentia won third place.
In the college competition, three Fullerton College students swept the awards. They were Carl Young of Fullerton, first place; Adrienne Herrera of Orange, second place, and Tim Patterson of Stanton, third place.
The winning public-service announcements will be broadcast by various radio stations during the holiday season, according to the Alcohol Advisory Board.
