Dodgers Won’t Offer Contract to Heep

Danny Heep, 31, became a free agent Wednesday when the Dodgers announced they would not offer a contract to the left-handed hitting outfielder.

Heep, frequently a pinch-hitter, had a .242 average with no home runs and 11 runs batted in last season.

“We appreciate the contributions that Danny Heep has made,” said Fred Claire, Dodger executive vice president. “But we did not feel he fit into our plans for 1989. We wish Danny the very best.”
