Man Arrested in 3-Car Fatal Collision

A 34-year-old National City man was arrested Thursday night on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony drunk driving after a three-car collision that killed one man and has left another in critical condition, National City police said.

The accident occurred shortly before 7:40 p.m. Thursday at 8th Street and D Avenue in National City. Arrested at the scene was Albert Manqual Torrez, of the 2100 block of Alta View Drive in San Diego, police said.

Police found two people seriously injured in separate vehicles. The injured were taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where 17-year-old Raul Sandoval of National City died Thursday night and the other, who was not named pending notification of his family, remained in critical condition Friday night. Police said Torrez, who was also injured, remained hospitalized on Friday under sheriff’s guard.
