Countywide : Diocese of Orange to Get 5 New Priests

J. Carlos Martinez, the Catholic Diocese of Orange’s first priest to be born and raised in Mexico, will be ordained along with four others by Bishop Norman F. McFarland at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Cathedral, 566 S. Glassell St., Orange.

Martinez, 28, entered the seminary in Saltillo, Mexico, and completed his studies at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo. He will be assigned as an associate pastor to Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in Santa Ana.

The other new priests are:

* Alfred S. Baca, 28, a graduate of Garden Grove High School, Cal State Fullerton and St. John’s Seminary. He will become associate pastor of St. Angela Merici parish in Brea.

* Timothy E. Freyer, 25, a graduate of Huntington Beach High School and St. John’s. He will be assigned as an associate pastor of St. Hedwig’s parish in Los Alamitos.

* Paul J. Levesque, 26, a graduate of Westminster High School who attended Cal State Long Beach and St. John’s before studying philosophy at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and completing his seminary studies at the American College of the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium. He will become associate pastor at St. John Neumann parish in Irvine.

* Joseph Son Thanh Nguyen, 25, a native of Vietnam, graduated from La Quinta High School in Westminster and from St. John’s. He has been assigned as an associate pastor of Holy Spirit parish in Fountain Valley.
