Chicago Police Guard 2 Anti-Drug Priests
From Associated Press
CHICAGO —
Two Roman Catholic priests leading a campaign against the sale of drug paraphernalia have been given 24-hour police protection because of threats from people identifying themselves as drug dealers.
Bodyguards were assigned Wednesday to Father George Clements and Father Michael Pfleger, police Supt. LeRoy Martin said.
“It certainly will make me feel a lot more secure in carrying on the war, but I intended to carry it on whether I got the protection or not,” said Clements, 57, pastor of Holy Angels Church.
