From Times staff and wire service reports

A spill of 200 gallons of lawn-care chemicals was being cleaned up this morning in Simi Valley by a hazardous materials team from the Ventura County Fire Department, authorities said.

The chemicals, a mixture of the pesticide Sevin and the fungicide Fore, spilled from a lawn-care truck about 9 a.m. in the parking lot of a Toyota dealership in the 2500 block of First Street, Ventura County fire dispatcher Jackie Noel said.

An undetermined amount of the chemicals spilled into a nearby arroyo before firefighters began to contain it, Noel said, but Simi Valley city officials said the spill posed no threat to groundwater.

The arroyo is a drainage channel that does not flow into the city’s water supply, said Joe Hinsberg, deputy city manager of Simi Valley.

The cause of the spill is being investigated, Noel said. The cleanup is expected to last until this evening. No injuries or evacuations were reported.
