An armed man robbed a Point Loma check-cashing store Monday and escaped with about $25,000, a police spokesman said.

The robber entered Checks Cashed for Less at 1460 Rosecrans St. at 9 a.m. while a female worker, whom the store owner refused to identify, was unlocking the front door. He grabbed her from behind and threatened to shoot her, spokesman Bill Robinson said. The employee’s feet were tied and her hands were bound with non-metal handcuffs, Robinson said.

After the bandit fled with $25,000, the woman freed herself and ran across the street to a real estate office to call police, Robinson said.
