ANAHEIM : Police Identify Man Wounded by Officers

Share

A man shot by two Anaheim police officers Sunday was identified Monday as Jose Arroyo Rodriguez, 24, who is believed to live in Anaheim, police said.

A police spokesman said Rodriguez’s identification had been delayed because he had been uncooperative in giving information about himself. Officers learned his name by checking fingerprints.

Rodriguez was shot in the back, abdomen and side when he confronted officers in the courtyard of an apartment building on South Michelle Drive just after midnight Sunday, according to Lt. Marc Hedgpeth. Both officers opened fire when the man turned toward them while holding a handgun, Hedgpeth said. He said officers had demanded several times that Hedgpeth drop his weapon, a semiautomatic pistol.

Officers had gone to the apartment building after receiving reports that Rodriguez had fired a shot in the air and was knocking on apartment doors.

Rodriguez was taken to UCI Medical Center where Hedgpeth said he was in stable condition Monday.
