VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP : Cal State Northridge Sweeps to Win Over Dominguez Hills
The Cal State Northridge’s women’s volleyball team, unbeaten in 53 consecutive California Collegiate Athletic Assn. matches at home, took its act on the road with a 15-13, 15-7, 15-8 win over Dominguez Hills on Wednesday night.
The win boosts Northridge’s record to 18-9 overall, 6-3 in conference play. Dominguez Hills is 7-16, 0-7 in conference.
Girls’ Volleyball
Royal d. La Reina, 15-13, 13-15, 15-13, 15-5: Royal, the Marmonte League’s top team, outlasted the No. 2 team in the Southern Section 2-A Division in a nonleague match at La Reina.
La Reina (13-2, 11-0 in league play) already had clinched the Tri-Valley League title.
The Regents were led by Carolyn Russo with 14 kills and 21 digs.
Royal (12-1) was led by Alison Bantel with 16 kills.
Louisville d. St. Genevieve, 15-3, 15-4, 15-7--The Royals wrapped up their fourth consecutive San Fernando Valley League title with a sweep of St. Genevieve at Louisville.
Louisville (15-1, 10-0) was led by Cynthia Lavanchy with six kills and Chrissy Heckathorn with five kills.
Chaminade d. Alemany, 8-15, 15-6, 15-0, 15-3--Chaminade clinched third place in the San Fernando Valley League and a playoff berth with the win at home.
Pam Powers had 20 kills to lead the Eagles (9-6, 6-4).
Chatsworth d. Kennedy, 15-4, 15-10, 15-9--Lisa Bankowski had nine kills and Heather Gorman had 10 service aces as the visiting Chancellors won their second consecutive Northwest Valley Conference title.
Chatsworth finishes the regular season 12-2, 9-1.
