Women in Business Honor Entrepreneur

Irvine resident Julie Caddy, president and owner of JMC Video and Film Productions in Irvine, was named Most Promising Business Woman of 1989 in the entrepreneur category by the Orange County chapter of Women in Business.

She was recognized for her work in increasing productivity and profits while improving service in her company.

Others recognized for their efforts were Melissa Tober of the Orange County Heath Agency and Karen Yoshikawa of Knott’s Berry Farm.

Colleen Rice of Westminster, who teaches adaptive physical education at Mendenhall and Santiago high schools in Garden Grove, received an “I Make a Difference Award” from the Garden Grove Education Assn. for serving her students in ways that go beyond her classroom duties.

Fountain Valley resident Roger Comi, a new reader in the Huntington Beach Library adult literacy program, has been nominated for the 1989-90 National Search for the Outstanding Adult Learner competition sponsored by the American Assn. for Adult and Continuing Education.

Volunteer storyteller Charles Feinberg was saluted with the KNBC-TV Spirit of Education award for his 12 years of twice-weekly sessions at Whittier Elementary School in Costa Mesa. Feinberg, who lives in Newport Beach, is a retired history professor.

Judy and Steven Altschuler of Yorba Linda will dance on the First Interstate Bank Tournament of Roses Parade float New Year’s Day in Pasadena.

The couple will join 20 others in a musical salute to George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” on the float, which will feature a giant floral peacock perched in an orchid tree.

Judy Altschuler is an assistant vice president with the bank in Los Angeles; Steven Altschuler is president of a consulting firm in Yorba Linda.

Frank Hall, who is spearheading a $3.5-million capital campaign for St. Jude Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Fullerton, was honored as an Outstanding Professional in Philanthropy during the recent National Philanthropy Day celebration in Newport Beach. Hall is vice president of the hospital’s resource department.

Irvine resident George Zacharias, who served in the Greek navy during World War II, was recently awarded four medals for valor during his wartime service.

The awards were presented by George Zois of the Greek Consul office in Los Angeles. Said Zois: “I wish that we had been able to present these awards sooner for his distinguished valor during his combat operations in World War II.”

Zacharias has been a real estate agent for commercial and investment properties for the past 10 years.
