SIDELINES : Cosbie Applies to Play Again
Doug Cosbie, the tight end who signed with the Denver Broncos last year and then retired in training camp, says he might give football another try.
Cosbie, who will turn 34 in March, was forced to retire last August because of the lingering effects of a torn Achilles’ tendon suffered in 1988.
Cosbie said that his Achilles’ tendon was fully healed by December and that he has applied to the NFL for reinstatement.
His rights still belong to the Broncos, but Lide Huggins, the team’s director of football operations, said it’s too early to determine whether Cosbie could be offered a contract.
“If we don’t sign him, we would release him and he could go with another team,” Huggins said.
In 10 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, Cosbie played in three Pro Bowls and caught 300 passes.
