SANTA ANA : Exhibit to Honor 120 Young Artists

Share

Artwork by 120 students from six Santa Ana elementary schools will be on exhibit at The Art Store Gallery in Newport Beach through July 3.

The exhibit, which features paintings, drawings, prints, collages, ceramics and sculpture, is the result of the students’ participation in Special Studio, a 20-week program offered by the district. The program provides studio art experience to a group of students from both gifted and regular classrooms. The students were selected to participate based on their artistic potential, said art teacher Helen Seigel.

“The beauty of the Special Studio program is evident as we watch art magically touch each child in a very personal way,” Seigel said. “Art provides the children with a visual language which connects them to their own feelings, to their heritage, to world culture and to each other.”

The young artists are from Grant, Jackson, Lincoln, Monte Vista, Roosevelt and Washington elementary schools.

The Art Store Gallery is at 4040 Campus Drive, Newport Beach. The exhibit, entitled “Major Art/Minor Artists V,” is open 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. A reception for the students will take place Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.
