White Sox’s Lyons Gets the Drop on Astonished Crowd at Tiger Stadium

Steve Lyons dropped his pants, and the fans at Tiger Stadium dropped their jaws.

Lyons, known as “Psycho” to his Chicago White Sox teammates, slid into first base for a single in the fifth inning of Monday night’s game against the Detroit Tigers.

After he got up, Lyons unbuckled his belt, dropped his pants and bent over to brush away some dirt.

Fans roared at the sight of Lyons wearing nothing but an athletic supporter over a pair of white long johns. Realizing the gaffe, Lyons quickly pulled his pants back up. He then was forced at second on a grounder.

“I could feel dirt running all down my legs,” Lyons said. “After they started arguing, I just kind of forgot where I was.

“I don’t have anything to be embarrassed about, but it’s embarrassing that I did it. When I got back to the bench, girls were waving money at me.”

Tiger Manager Sparky Anderson said several times that Lyons was “a chauvinist” before someone told him the word was “exhibitionist.”
