British Film Festival Begins

For the next 11 days, classic British films will be shown at the Fullerton Museum Center. The festival begins tonight with “Blackmail” (1929), Alfred Hitchcock’s--and the British film industry’s--first talkie.

Charles Bennett, who wrote the screenplay, will attend the screening and will answer questions from the audience.

The series will continue with Paul Czinner’s “As You Like It,” a 1936 adaptation of the Shakespearean comedy that features the late Sir Laurence Olivier’s first screen appearance (Friday); “Blithe Spirit” (Saturday); “The Winslow Boy” (Sunday); Olivier’s “Hamlet” (Monday); “The Ladykillers,” a comedy starring Alec Guinness and Peter Sellers (Tuesday); “A Taste of Honey” (Wednesday); “Georgy Girl” (Oct. 18); “The Go-Between” (Oct. 19); “The Hireling” (Oct. 20), and Ken Russell’s “Tommy,” based on the Who’s rock opera (Oct. 21).

Screenings begin at 7:30 p.m. The museum center is at 301 N. Pomona Ave. in Fullerton. Admission is $3 ($2 for museum members). Information: (714) 738-6595. The series is being presented as part of the Orange County Festival of Britain, a combination arts festival-retail promotion.
