Sophia Loren will receive a lifetime achievement award today at the Chicago International Film Festival just in time for the world premiere of her movie, “Saturday, Sunday and Monday.”

Loren estimated that she has made about 100 pictures in her native Italy and in the United States since her debut 39 years ago as a teen-age extra playing a slave in “Quo Vadis.”

Her other works include “Two Women,” “Marriage Italian Style” and “The Cassandra Crossing.”

Not every film makes her proud, but she said she has no regrets.

“You believe in the project, you believe in the story, you believe in the director, and it’s always done in very good faith. . . . Each, for me, was a wonderful experience,” she said.

Her newest film, set in 1930s Naples, is about a simple woman whose philosophy of life revolves around her cooking.

Speaking from her home outside Los Angeles, the 56-year-old actress said she never thinks about age.

“For me, aging is not a problem. It’s something that comes very naturally. It’s what you can accomplish in life that really counts,” she said.
