FATAL READING: The death toll this year on Orange County’s notorious Ortega Highway has reached five, boosted by the three deaths Wednesday in a pickup truck crash (B6). . . . But it has been worse. In 1982, eight died on the road, half of them motorcyclists. . . . “That year, a motorcycle magazine wrote that Ortega Highway was dangerous but great for motorcyclists,” says a Highway Patrol spokesman. “These guys took it as gospel and had to try the road.”
