Upland Man Indicted: Real estate developer William E. Crowder was indicted by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles on 33 counts of submitting false tax returns and financial statements to two New York banks--Dollar Dry Dock Bank and Bank of New York--and the former Home Federal Savings in Phoenix. Crowder allegedly tried to obtain $200 million in commercial real estate loans from the banks. Also indicted for assisting in the alleged scheme was John Gary Willett of Fullerton. Crowder faces up to 87 years in prison and a fine of up to $7.75 million. Willett faces up to eight years in prison and up to $1 million in fines. Crowder’s lawyer could not be reached for comment.
