Two more high school football players have orally committed to San Diego State--Zach Patterson, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound inside linebacker from Cabrillo High School in Lompoc, and De’Andre Maxwell, a 6-2, 193-pound wide receiver from Bullard High in Fresno.

Patterson was an all-Los Padres League selection in each of the past three seasons and an all-CIF Southern Section selection in each of the past two seasons.

“He’s got real good speed for a linebacker,” Cabrillo Coach Steve Haskins said. “And he’s got tremendous upper body strength. He’s a student of the game--he takes films home and studies them.”

Patterson, who also visited Arizona and San Jose State and canceled a visit to Cal State Long Beach, said he picked SDSU for a variety of reasons.

“I liked the area, I like the schedule they play and I liked the academics,” Patterson said.

Maxwell, who caught 21 passes for 678 yards and 10 touchdowns last fall, visited Cal before committing to SDSU.

“I liked the type of offense (SDSU) runs--a three-receiver offense, and they put the ball up,” Maxwell said. “I thought with a three-receiver rotation, I could come in after my redshirt year and have a chance at a starting position.”
