BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Parrish Ready for Henderson
Rickey Henderson’s pursuit of Lou Brock’s stolen base record continues today, and Angel catcher Lance Parrish is eager to face him for the first time this season.
Henderson sat out Oakland’s series at Anaheim Stadium earlier this month because of a strained left calf muscle and John Orton was the Angels’ starting catcher Saturday, when Henderson was activated off the disabled list. Parrish caught the eighth inning, but Henderson had been taken out of the game.
“If we win, the record won’t mean anything to me,” said Parrish, who has seen Henderson steal 32 times against him. “He’s got to get on base first.”
Dave Stewart will start for the A’s today instead of rookie Kirk Dressendorfer. Stewart, a 20-game winner each of the past four seasons, has a no-decision and two losses in his past three outings.
