4 Escape From Youth Prison in Camarillo
Four convicts escaped from a California Youth Authority prison here after cutting through a chain-link fence, Ventura County authorities said Monday.
The inmates broke out about 9:20 a.m. Sunday while serving on a trash detail and escaped through a hole that had been cut in the fence, CYA Lt. Thomas Salas said.
Carlos Ramirez, 21, was serving time for first-degree murder. Ismael Solis, 20, was incarcerated for two counts of second-degree murder. Osvaldo Pineda, 19, was serving time for voluntary manslaughter, and Jose Dubon, 20, was incarcerated for exhibiting a weapon. The inmates were from Los Angeles County.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department searched the area around the maximum-security facility until late Sunday evening but called off the search Monday, Lt. Gary Backman said.
Authorities said they expect that the inmates fled to Los Angeles.
