Court Refuses Hearing on Challenge to Bus Zone
The state Supreme Court has refused to hear a union challenge to the creation of a San Gabriel Valley experimental bus transportation zone. Officials of the West Covina-based Foothill Transit District say the decision clears the way for them to expand from seven to 14 lines.
The court last week let stand a Court of Appeal ruling that in April upheld the district’s formation in 1987 under the auspices of the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission and 20 San Gabriel Valley cities.
The transit district had taken over seven lines run by the Southern California Rapid Transit District. Officials of two RTD unions filed a challenge, saying some members would lose their jobs.
