FULLERTON : Help Sought in Solving Horse Thefts

Share

Police are asking the public for help in solving the recent thefts of three horses from two Fullerton stables.

In the first theft, two horses were stolen June 12 from Bastanchury Stables, at Euclid Street and Bastanchury Road, said Fullerton Police Sgt. Hal Stevens, who is heading the investigation. The third horse was stolen from Lucky Copper Stables at 219 Claire Ave.

The quarter horses, stolen late at night in both cases, were valued at $800 to $1,300 each, Stevens said. Investigators are not certain whether the crimes are linked.

Fullerton has three stables housing a total of about 80 horses. Because these animals are considered pets rather than livestock, they usually are not branded or marked, Stevens said. The last horse theft in Fullerton occurred about eight years ago, Stevens said. Animal-rights activists have informed investigators that, in other cases around the state, stolen horses have been sent to out-of-state slaughterhouses, he said.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call Detective Joe Caracci or Stevens at the Fullerton Police Department, (714) 738-5334.
