SANTA PAULA : Date Change to Cut Parade Participation

Share

Participation in the 22nd annual Santa Paula Citrus Festival parade will be down this year because the date of the event has been changed.

But organizers said Monday that the show will go on.

The festival, scheduled Saturday, is expected to be 25% smaller than last year because a parade honoring Persian Gulf War veterans was held earlier, said Eugene Marzec, organizer for the Kiwanis Club-sponsored event.

In previous years, the parade recognizing Santa Paula’s citrus industry has been held on the second Saturday of July. But because another service club held a parade July 4, the citrus festival parade’s organizers decided to change their date to August, Marzec said.

“The two parades would have been too close together,” he said.

Starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, about 50 entrants, including floats, marching bands and equestrian units, will travel east on Main Street beginning at 6th Street, Marzec said.

The Santa Paula Citrus Festival begins Friday and runs through Sunday. A carnival will begin Friday at Civic Center Park.
