Sila Selected CSUN Football MVP
Alo Sila, a two-time All-Western Football Conference choice on the defensive line, was honored as Cal State Northridge’s most valuable player at an awards ceremony Thursday night in Granada Hills.
Receiver Cornell Ward and linebacker Ken Vaughn were offensive and defensive most valuable players. Ward, a senior, led the Matadors with 31 receptions and also passed for seven touchdowns (in eight attempts) on a variety of reverse options and trick plays.
Vaughn, a senior, set two school career records--tackles (216) and solo tackles (118)--and also set two school single-season records--tackles (133) and solo tackles (80).
Sila, a 6-foot-1, 275-pound preseason All-American, led CSUN with 12 tackles for losses and also forced a team-high four fumbles.
Other award winners were safety Troy Thomas (coaches’ award, defense), quarterback Marty Fisher (coaches’ award, offense), receiver-kick returner Paul Peters (special teams), linebacker Joseph Ojomoh (most inspirational), defensive tackle Ken Jackson (most improved) and Homan Farahmand (academic award).
