Monte Vista 13, Fallbrook 12-- Tim Porter scored his fifth goal with 34 seconds left in overtime to give No. 2 Monte Vista (21-3) its only lead of the game. Jim Mansard had three goals for the Monarchs, who tied the contest at 12 with 1:03 left, on Justin McCartney’s goal. Jeff McAnally had 14 saves. No. 3 Fallbrook (21-8) got four goals from Billy Peralta and Chad Lemmons had 12 saves.

2-A, at El Cajon Valley

Valhalla 22, University City 13--Josh White, Dennis Sutherland and Tim Ault scored four goals apiece to lead No. 1 Valhalla (24-2). Unseeded UC is 17-11.

Bishop’s 19, Army-Navy 9--Pat Buchanan scored seven goals and John Haller scored four to lead No. 2 Bishop’s (22-5) to its first championship appearance.

FIELD HOCKEY

Semifinals

Fallbrook 3, Torrey Pines 0--In strokes, No. 4 Fallbrook edged its league opponent in a game that was more than twice as long as regulation (2 hours, 6 minutes). The Warriors (13-7) disposed of the unseeded Falcons (6-10) in the second of two strokes rounds as Cori Durling, Christina Arnett and Dawn Pederson scored unanswered goals. Goalie Stacey Small got the shutout.

Rancho Buena Vista 1, Hilltop 0--Christine Feliccia scored off of a corner with 1:58 left in the first half to lift No. 3 RBV (16-3) past No. 2 Hilltop (17-3). Feliccia’s goal was assisted by Tyanya Norbakhsh and preserved a combined shutout for Corie Sisario and Janice Setter. The finals take place at noon, Saturday, at Diegueno Junior High in Encinitas. The third-place game is at 10 a.m.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Top-seeded Nikki Willette’s bid to regain the section singles championship she won two years ago as a sophomore ended with a semifinal loss to No. 3 Marisa Velasco of USDHS. Willette, who missed the tournament last year because of shoulder surgery, fell 6-4, 5-7, 6-0. Velasco faces Betsy Miringoff of Torrey Pines, a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 winner for Monte Vista’s Vanessa Rooks.

The doubles final will be all Torrey Pines, as top-seeded Erin Bohrnstedt and Allison McNellis advanced, as did second seeded Kelly McCracken and Kristin McCracken. The doubles final is at 1 p.m. today, the singles at 2:30 p.m. at The Bishop’s School.
