SOUTHERN SECTION GIRLS’ TENNIS PLAYOFFS

In another 2-A match:

Rosary 13, Sunny Hills 5--Joyce Cruz (6-0, 6-0, 6-1) and Mandy Gomez (6-3, 6-2, 6-2) swept their singles sets for No. 2 Rosary (18-4-1) at Fullerton Tennis Center. Bonnie Neri and Jennifer Chey also swept their doubles sets for Rosary. No. 4 Sunny Hills finished 21-2.

In the 4-A semifinals:

Palos Verdes Peninsula 16, Dana Hills 2--Nicole Elliott won two of her three singles sets, giving host No. 4 Dana Hills (17-4) its only points against top-seeded Peninsula (22-0). Elliott’s only loss came against Nicole London, one of the top junior players in the nation, who won 6-2.

Santa Barbara 11, Capistrano Valley 7--The third-seeded Cougars (21-2) fell to the second-seeded Dons at Santa Barbara, despite winning two sets each in singles from Allison Light, Farrah Tierney and Lisa Shulga. Capistrano Valley lost eight of nine doubles sets, and played without No. 1 singles player Page Bartelt, who was out because of illness.
